I feel compelled to create necklaces, bracelets, bangles, and fibulas because of how often they have taken my breath away in exhibitions like King Tut, imperial treasures of China, or African jewelry at the Smithsonian. Traveling, whether for absorbing the atmosphere of a new place, or for buying charms and beads, always leaves me a little changed for the better.
I have been collecting ancient Roman fibulas with a passion, always amazed by the ingenuity of the Roman craftsman, and how ubiquitous these little relics are—obviously a necessity, but also an expression of the creative urge.
My basic toolkit can be stowed in a tackle box. I use pliers, hammers, and files to bend the wire to my will, but sometimes that wire surprises me and suggests a whole new direction. I go there.
In addition to seeing the pictures, you can read a few words about each of the pieces on this page - what each means to me, what my inspiration was, as well as the title and dimensions.

Mixed Media Necklace 29.5" This truly one-of-a-kind necklace was inspired by my workbench. Remnants of book arts, house repairs, spools of German silver wire, and sterling silver jewelry findings surrounded my working surface. Why not pair the clear vinyl tubing with the clear lampwork beads? Why not slip bits of that beautiful wrapping paper I loved into the vinyl tubing? Voila! The Mixed Media Necklace began to take shape. The result is a light weight, flexible necklace that’s easy to wear and is bound to draw attention for its uniqueness. ¼” vinyl tube and paper necklace |

Nature’s Bounty Necklace 22.5" You’ll feel in harmony with nature wearing this necklace because it’s made from organic, natural materials. The horn and bone beads are ways in which tribal people more fully honor an animal by carefully working and shaping every part of its body. Various trees provide nuts that are worked into beautiful beads and ornaments. Shells used as decorative beads were one of the first ways in which humans exhibited self-expression by adorning themselves. So continue the ancient tradition that began 100,000 years ago. Use nature’s bounty as your self-expression. Carved bone pendant |
